Does changing the whois for a domain have an effect on serps, Google etc.. I've been asked this as I'm kicking the can around to sell Snerdey .. got an offer on the table that's got my attention but they want to keep my name on the domain for 6-12 months.
Still not sure if I'll sell but hey.. it's not everyday someone offer's you twice your yearly sales
Funny how little things like this can throw a spanner into a deal .. lol I do not have any specific answer to your primary question. My opinion is no it does not.
Cricket or the missing Tutor would be a far more reliable source of information.
I do have a counter question that you should ponder well; what is their real reason for wanting to keep you as the official owner? I would have to spend a lot of time thinking about the down side to this if I were in your shoes. Thanks.. yeah, they seam to think it will cause a slip in serps so I figured I'd ask.
That's the only part they want to keep my name on so I don't see an issue with that. I would not even consider a sale that involved keeping the whois information in your name. Beyond being a serious ICANN violation, it opens you up for liability issues. Just an example, let's say they decide to use the domain to send out mass spam. Who do you think would be held accountable?
There can be minor changes in SERPs but this happens more in cases where a site has been purchased for the PR and then it is noticed by Google to be a completely different site with a new owner, like a dog company is now an SEO company. Ahh.. good points well taken

Na, there's no way they'd do anything stupid .. I mean, not spending this kinda change ya know. I've got a lawyer that deals in this type of sales. Been busy getting questions ready to send to him. But, I wanted to check if anyone had detailed info on the serp part.

Creed, no way they'd do that. I mean, they are template sellers too and much, much bigger company.

I miss Chris Farley! As it was said before, in this kind of situation it is recommended that you do remove your name. It is better to do it earlier than later, and I really don't see any point of keeping your name for the next 6-12 months. Thanks.. well people little update.
I decided to turn down the offer even after it was doubled. I like the name Snerdey. I've watched it grow from 0 results in Google to whatever it is today. Rather personal nickname from my AOL days. Been working a while on a replacement site for it over the past few months as I've neglected to the current site updated as most just enter template number, checkout and save ya know. Spend most of my time editing templates for clients
