Question regarding total size of home page

Hi there! I've a web site that has this main page called index.html.(of course! :D)

The total size of this entire main page(NOT the entire web site) is 21 - 22 KB, including graphics and such.

Will a main page of this size load rather slowly on an average 56kbps modem during busy hours? Or will it load in average speed? Or will it be quite fast?

In case you need to take server speed into consideration, my web hosting provider is a commercial one called iPowerWeb.(http://www.ipowerweb.com)

My web site isn't up yet, and I wanna get the opinion of more people who have more experience than me.

Thanks a lot! :):)
good question!

Thanks a lot, transmothra! B-b-but.....you haven't answered my question yet!:eek:
Someone! :)including graphics? that's not a very fat page. i wouldn't even worry about it. even during busy hours nobody will notice anything. now, i dunno about ipowerweb. they could have good days and bad days, just like any host.

but really, i wouldn't worry about it... unless it fairly often takes awhile to load. in which case, change hosts! Thanks a lot, transmothra!!!!! :):):D:):DIf someone connects to their ISP at 35kbps (meaning 35 thousand BITS ber second), then they are going to get a data throughput of about 3.5K per second (meaning 3.5 kilo BYTES per second).

Assuming your site serves data reasonably quickly, and there is little or no delay on the connection from your server to the users ISP then: (for example) If your page is 35 KB (kilo bytes) long then it will take 10 seconds to Download everything, although the user will usually start to see the top of the page after only 1 or 2 seconds.on a 56K modem it'll take about 4 seconds to load i believe. on my DSL it will load instantly. Thanks a lot, Giz and MorrowWasted!!! :):)You seem eager to ingest some statistics.
Just something I read recently.

How in the hatties can you gather that kind of information. It dempends on the content of the page. And the users isp.

Nvm...just ignore this post.Thanks a lot, Post-It-Lord(you use 100 post-it Notes in 1 day?!:eek::eek:), <htmlite> and Badger!
Are you refering to iPowerWeb? They're perfect, seriously...but they offer only 30 GB per month...and worse still, they're not scalable in the sense that they don't allow you to purchase additional bandwidth if you really need it. So, if you have files for interested visitors to Download and such....the 30 GB can run out pretty fast, and since they're not scalable....the site will be close down when the bandwidth for the current month is full....u get the idea. :eek:Originally posted by Xeon
Yes.

I guess I have a relatively small site then. I think there was downtime for about 4 hours once in the past year.

My main part of going with ipowerweb was price plus features. I havent really shopped around at other hosts lately though, so I dont really know if there are comparable ones out there. From HTMLLite:
Actually, they really rock in everything except no possibility of buying additional bandwidth. :)

Their iPage templates and marketing tools and all those extras like XMB forums(new) and chat rooms and scripts really rock. :):)You can buy additional bandwidth from Ipowerweb. I have seen it. If you go to there FAQ's it is in there. You can buy additional bandwidth from Ipowerweb. I have seen it. If you go to there FAQ's it is in there.
Sure, Prozak! But the catch is : the maximum amount of bandwidth you can buy per month is 10 GB. :-)back on topic...
When I first took a class on html, about six years ago, the instructor said to keep the total for each page to 30kb or less. Now as more people are getting higher-speed connections, that may or MAY NOT be necessary. I read not long ago a comment that up to 100kb is reasonable. It depends on who will be using your site. If your visitors are likely (and site statistics will help in knowing this) to have better connections, bigger files sizes might be acceptable. "They" still say, though, that there are plenty of folks out there using 56k modems.

"They" also say that more than 8-12 seconds to load a page and most people are on their way elsewhere.
There's a load time checker there, too. Looks like you need $$ to use it though.Yah! This thread is awoken from a 10 month slumber.
