pull-down navigation menus

I am trying to put a pull-down navigation menu on a website. I have found several menus that run across the top of the screen/page that I like, but none of them work. When I copy and paste the full text into my wordpad document, then save as html document, when I load the page into a browser, it shows up only as blank, except for the plain-text advertising that Javascript Source places at the bottom of all their codes.
