When you do a google search for "search engine" google appears as the 5th link in the search results.Dosn't this mean either: Google isnt the best search engine. or Googles ranking system is flawed.One of them statments has to be true.http://www.google.com/search?q=search%20engineno it just mean the other sites are better optimized for the term "search engine"you didn't know that google's search was flawed? find me a search engine that ISN'T for that matter. i don't know of any engine that won't bring up either irrelevant or obviously SEOed links within the first couple of pages. i have little respect for them either because if they truly cared about SEO abuse they'd have a 'Report Abuse' button and have people take care of black hat seo'd sites right away.If it's built by humans......it's flawed You would think that they would know how to optimise thier own site for thier own spider bots wouldnt you?If google cant build a site that does well on thier own search engine how do they expect others to?It makes me wonder if all this SEO crap is worth the effort, it all just looks like pot luck to me.Actually, I consider that a good sign. It means that google doesn't rate their own site higher than other search engines, which also tells me that they potentially don't do that with other sites. Have google themselves ever said it?Google does what it is told, thats it! Because its results are created simply by numbers. Its an algorithm, if you knew that algorithm you could rank in number 1 for any term you wanted and that is the whole point of seo, learning what works and what doesn't.Its also the fact why google change their algorithm frequantly, to try and improve its results. Do you remember the florida update? Dropped thousands of sites from their top spots because google changed the way it was playing ball.I bet their isn't a single employee at google who give two hoots wether they rank number 1 in their results when the user is searching from their site in the first place.....lets take a look at the top terms for "search engine" that are above Google.1 - searchenginewatch - this site is about search engines and known by almost anyone who has ever scratched the surface of seo. It isn't a search engine, it's about the search engines. that seems a good number 1 to me.2 - lycos - lycos was around before the idea of google was probably even thought of3 - AltaVista - same as lycos. Altavista had a huge following in its day, it was probably the most popular search engine on the net before googles dominance.4 - dogpile - again these are all established sites above google. I know the guys at dogpile spend hundreds of thousands on promoting their engine and im sure that a hard fought 4th place for them.Notice the trend? All the sites above google are far more established than themselves, have huge followings, masses of linkage ......I actually comend google for that. Hence searchenginewatch.If Google was to adjust its results - it would more than likely regret it.Every seo in the world would stop concentrating on the engine, all talk about the engine would stop on thousands of web sites accross the net.All the excitement of backlink and especially PR updates would die.Google would just be an every day engine that Bob down the road created.It's the fact that everyday thousands of people are fighting it out in all industries to achieve on Google that have made them so popular in the first place.Nothing is impossible on google at the moment....... Why on earth would they want to throw away their biggest and best PR method by taking away the freedom and excitement?
