Preserving text format in MySQL field

Hi guys,

I am trying to make my own forum and I have problems putting the body into the database. When text is put in the body field(text) all <RETURN>s are gone.

Can anyone tell me how I can preserve the text in its original state in which it was provided.

For example a blank line will not be shown in my body at all when I recollect it from my database.
