PR on first update on new site

Hello. If someone creates a website will they only get a maximum of pr1 on the first update after they make it, or is it possible to get higher? And do PR updates ever jump more that one score? So could a pr4 site become pr6 on the next update or will they only be able to get a pr5?On my first update, my main site page went to a PR3. That, I think could be considered normal for a main page. However, secondary pages oftentimes, I've noticed start out with a one or a two. It took about 2 or 3 updates to get to a PR4 (roughly 6 months or so) and took a whole year beyond that to get to a PR5.I've seen sites hit 5, 6 & 7 on the first update after they were created/launched. Even 1 or 2 that have been PR8.Thanks for the info ATNO. My directory has only just got listed by google so im interested to see what happens on the next PR update.thanks.edit.Wow they are big jumps for the sites first PR update GuyFromChicagoI have seen many new sites get PR3 and PR4 on the first update. For the most part though these sites really don't start getting much traffic until further down the road. However, I am sure there are exceptions to that.My website http://www.christchurchbangkok.org went to pr4 in the first update. Another website http://www.howzzat123.com reached PR2 (Homepage) and PR3 in subpages. It also all depends how much time goes by from when your site goes live and the next update. If your site goes live right after an update...you have more time to build quality links until the next update, allowing you a better chance at a higher PR. I have a ton of clients that went from 0 to 6's, but now adays I don't like to get a ton of links in the beginning life of a site, so I usually see 4's.vetofunk wrote:Bigwebmaster wroteQuote:I wouldn't necessary put a fixed number on the backlinks per month. I think a better way to go would be using percents. For example if you have 10 backlinks this month and then next month you have 100 backlinks that means your site's backlinks increased 1000% - That may be at a rate that Google would flag you and put you in a sandbox. Now lets say there is another site that already has 1000 backlinks. They also increased 100 backlinks in a month which puts them at 1100 backlinks. That is a 10% increase which is much better rate of growth compared to 1000%. I really am not sure what an acceptable rate of growth should be. All I do know is that Google is looking for a natural backlink structure, not ones which are inflated. The whole purpose of Pagerank was supposed to be a measure of a sites importance. When someone truly loves a site and links to it that is where things were supposed to be. However backlinks can be inflated big time in unnatural ways and that is why Google filters out sites like that because for the most part they can determine that the site is simply trying to play them.Yeah, there is no equation to figure out what Google thinks a natural growth of links is, but BigWebMaster's advice seems like a good way to look at it.Thanks for your view on this matter i agree this would be the best approach to go with.Achieving PR upto 4 is possible in the first update itself .But more than PR what is important is the quality and website them for linking building .Only having high page rank does not make much sense really .I have seen many site inclusing some of our own client website that even will small PR but good focussed link work results are very good .Google wants you to be natural .There is no need to mad rush for backlink .reaper wrote:I think they are refering to reciprocal links, which are very different to the ones you speak about.I don't think one way links could negatively affect your rank at all.
