Populating a table on a php web page fro

I have a problem with inserting my data across the page. I would like to have it show in 3 columns and X rows. I have no problem pulling my data from the database to my php page and displaying it in one column with X rows. I have 400 towns and would like them sorted alphabetically in 3 columns and X rows .
