<Hopefully this is the right place for this thread>

Hi I am a newbie at HTML and wondering if anybody has any recemendations of any of the available HTML tools.

Also any detailed tutorials for newbies anywhere, I have been searching for them but hd no luck

Thankswhats up?

When I was learning i went to a website called page resource
http://www.pageresource.com

It has very good tutorials

Good luck!My advice is that you learn the right tricks from the start. And that means HTML 4.01 (will become XHTML in time) with CSS (cascadeing style sheets). So if you do a search use this string in google.

HTML 4.01 XHTML CSS tutorials.

Pointers for now.
Books are a great way to start, get yourself a bible. I have been through many and would suggest two:
1] Any cheapo learn in a weekend title for a quick start and then:
2]Web Design in a Nutshell (a Desktop Quick Reference). Author: Jennifer Niederst, publisher: O'Reilly, ISBN: 0-596-00196-7, Price US $29.95, CAN $ 44.95, UK ?0.95. This title is a godsend. It covers every aspect you will need for years to come from HTML, CSS, How to author for different platforms, Graphics, web pallettes, Multimedia such as flash and shockwave (and SMIL) and some fantastic appendixes.

To get some good software go to http://www.tuwcows.com and help yourself. There is lots to choose from and the sections are split up in terms of difficulty to use to aid your first choices in this area. I'm sure I've said this a thousand times before... but I learnt useing Netscape composer. It comes free with Netscape, if you have it, find it in your programs menu. It is a wysiwyg editor. Meaning you design it as it looks then save it and it will create the code for you. This way you can try things step by step and see how the code changes. I can't think of any better way to teach yourself. That is along with those one and a helf good books I suggested.

By the way, the web page for O'Reilly titles is http://www.oreilly.com

I'll go there tomorrow.entimp:
Thank you too, a nice long post.

Cheers for all those links, I have stored them all. Tomorrow I will visit www.tuwcows.com and check it all out

Thank you both very much:DGood Luck and just shout if you need a pointer. You could also take a look at this sites:

www.w3schools.com (http://www.w3wchools.com)
this is a really well built site with well structured tutorials with examples of the end result, and with an examination at the end to see how well you got to grips with the topic

www.htmlhelp.com (http://www.htmlhelp.com)
this takes a bit of work to get the information you want, but the reference and FAQ sections are superb - detailed and yet quite easy for a newbie (like me) to understand

I also recommend a book which I have been using since I started HTML, and it includes all the different aspects of web-authoring, including Client Side Script (ie, Javascript) and Server Side Includes, XHTML and Flash. It even helps out with ideas for how to achieve the visual design of the page before you even start coding it.
Unfortunately I can't remember the title or author right now - I'll check it out as soon as I get home.
