Hello Everyone,

Which do you use, or do you even bother and just use exact match? I am running a couple of campaigns, and I have Phrase and Exact Match and I have doubled up on my key words, so "right foot", and [right foot] I get thousands of impressions, which is good because people are seeing you, and I do get a fair rate of clicks, as an example;

Clicks Impr. CTR Avg.
1,362 1,050,868 0.13%

So the average does look bad, but I am being seen on the keywords that I want.

Any suggestions idea? Comments? Thoughts? I'd like to use the combination of phrase and exact match, specially that I have plans going for an authoritative websites.

If you're building a niche site which is around 10 pages and no planning of adding anymore...probably an affiliate site, go for exact match.

And, don't forget to check that keyword in google insights, if it has a consistent searches all throughout the year, or, you'll end up no visitors and found out in the end that it has only a peak search for a particular month. If you use broad then frequently check what search phrases trigger your ads and filter out the bad ones by adding negative keywords.

Also look into using +words to make your broads less broad I don't personally bother with broad match unless I have a lot of money and a lack of keywords. Is the + operator for Google still around? I think they already removed that before. I found this article from way back October of last year: http://searchengineland.com/google-sunsets-search-operator-98189

About the keywords, I'd go for a combination of phrase and exact match. If the keywords are too specific, you might end with less traffic and not be able to reach as many users as you'd like. Its better to have a combination of broad and exact match for your keyword list. Here is a quick recap on the difference between the three.

Broad Match - keywords that pertains to a wide variety of other related search terms. When you look for broad matches of the keyword, (example) online training, it may also shows other broad matches related to it like online training course, course online training, training courses online, getting training courses, online course for training

Phrase Match - pertain to keyword that has the exact keyword (example) online training on a certain phrase. Like how to get online training[/B][/B], online training school in Texas, requirements on getting an online training

Exact Match - pertains to exactly keyword phrase itself, with no other related searches nor phrase matches. Just online training

This mostly matter in terms of PPC, since targeting the right keyword for your campaign, whether it be broad, phrase or exact match, which matters a lot. A blend of all works for me... You never know what keyword do wonders for your campaign. Quote: Originally Posted by vilcot44 I don't personally bother with broad match unless I have a lot of money and a lack of keywords. Yes, I agree with your point that Broad Match would not be a good idea if we have limited budget and good keywords option. Its funny when some SEO experts do a keyword analysis and show us
their borad match search volumes which are mostly very high.

If they go for the exact match ones the numbers drop like hell.

so, be cautious when seeing those videos or claims of "high volume" keywords! First thing, thank you everyone for your answers and thoughts.

Second, Yes google still do +. I decided to listen to one of these google marketing experts that call you can walk you through things saynig they can do better than you for just 10% of what you spend on Adwords, I took the lesson, and he mentioned the + for broad match.

He didn't tell me anything I didn't know, and the worst of it is he was trying to tell me about the products that we make, and didn't have a clue.

Our products are pretty specific, so I am using more exact match keywords, and cutting back on the broad, because if you search for our keywords, then you really are looking for what we do, and one of our products.

It is amazing how the traffic levels have dropped, but we are getting more page views, so that does mean more people are coming to us because they searched for something that we do, or have been involved in.

It has saved money as well. Quote: Originally Posted by w_grace It is amazing how the traffic levels have dropped, but we are getting more page views, so that does mean more people are coming to us because they searched for something that we do, or have been involved in.

It has saved money as well. I'm pretty amazed that you are getting page views but your traffic has dropped & What about your conversion or goal? If people are coming to your site & not getting convert into customers it means your site may lacking something which you needs to look into that.

Yes, Exact Match & Phrase Match are good but if you've money try Broad Match also. Thank you, Tamondong, for the recap. I keep getting Broad Match confused with Phrase Match. I need to just write this stuff down sometime to keep in my file.
