Well, it's (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.php.net">www.php.net</a><!-- w -->) finally here!
Let the OOP bashing begin oh goodie - now if I can just get my head around objects... Yup. Its' released all right. (I read it in a magazine). (Oh no, now I have to learn php 5 ) lol.
Thanks. I am going to Download it. I hope there aren;t any bugs.Originally posted by Horus_Kol

OOOoohhhh that's EASY! Objects are what you throw in frustration when your code doesn't work Will PHP 5 be better and more powerful than ASP.net?
Ahhhhh your alive torrent! Where were you all these days?
welcome back :rocker:Some of the key features of PHP 5 include:
The Zend Engine II with a new object model and dozens of new features.
XML support has been completely redone in PHP 5, all extensions are now focused around the excellent libxml2 library (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.xmlsoft.org/">http://www.xmlsoft.org/</a><!-- m -->).
A new SimpleXML extension for easily accessing and manipulating XML as PHP objects. It can also interface with the DOM extension and vice-versa.
A brand new built-in SOAP extension for interoperability with Web Services.
A new MySQL extension named MySQLi for developers using MySQL 4.1 and later. This new extension includes an object-oriented interface in addition to a traditional interface; as well as support for many of MySQL's new features, such as prepared statements.
SQLite has been bundled with PHP. For more information on SQLite, please visit their website.
Streams have been greatly improved, including the ability to access low-level socket operations on streams.
And lots more...
I don't use XML. Don't know SOAP. Don't have MySQL access. or SQLite. What are streams??? In other words... is there any advantage that PHP5 has for a low-level user?
And also another question. I pay $10 a month for hosting, at some server down in Florida. I don't have MySQL: they charge $5 a month for that option. Do you think there is a way/that I am allowed to install MySQL myself, somehow, on my server? I can't really tell - do hosting services charge you money for the service of installing mysql or... for keeping and maintaining it (in which case $5 a month makes sense)?Originally posted by fredricknish

php 4 was already better than asp.net I'm not going to even bother until my webhost supports it. I am looking forward to the extended OOP support, I'm getting into that stuff and I think i have the hang of it.
Pyrexyn, sounds to me like you need a new host.
MySQL should be installed on all webhosts, especially if you're paying. And making you pay extra for MySQL access is ridiculous and they're stealing your money.
Good to see you back torrent, where've you been?and check out this compiler as well...
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.roadsend.com/home/index.php?SMC=1&pageID=compiler">http://www.roadsend.com/home/index.php? ... D=compiler</a><!-- m -->
$400, and not out on windows yet, but it sounds cool!I share the view of waiting until the hosting companies upgrade. Just hope they won't try and charge more for it.
Thanks for the welcome. I've been working abroad a lot and also got heavily into video editing which I spend a lot of time doing now.
Good to see the old faces are still around and that Scoutt is spreading his wisdom still.Ooo...didn't think that they might charge more for it. I certainly hope they won't.
Gonna stick around then torrent?my host is upgrading to php 5 Originally posted by Josh

Gonna stick around then torrent? I hope not too, just guessing really.
I have been popping in every now and then and reading a few threads and all the time promising myself to get back into it all. Bloody jobs....always interfering with the stuff I really want to do
Hey n8thegreat.
That's excellent. Who's your hosting company? I might pop over and take a look.its milescape.com
they havent upgraded it yet, they are in the process of working out some bugs in their testing enviroment. when thats all done they are going to upgrade all servers to 5I've asked my host if they're going to upgrade, no reply yet. I'm guessing not many hosts will do it until it's been out for a while and the bugs have been worked out.I asked my host if and when they are going to upgrade to php 5.
He said that as soon as cpanel supports it. I don't see how cpanel support is an issue though?
They also updated their servers to php 4.3.8 so he said "notice we're getting closer to 5". Well this is not the case, is it? I mean php 4.x will never be like 5.Originally posted by Josh

He responded saying that they will wait until all of the bugs are worked out and it works fine with cPanel.Originally posted by mettebe
