Can anyone tell me why my site http://www.toplocalpros.com shows as a PR3 but when I type it as http://www.toplocalpros.com/index.php it shows as a PR5?Obviously, most people won't type index.php at the end of my URL so what is my true PR?ThanksKevinYour true PR is 3 for http://www.toplocalpros.com/ and 5 for http://www.toplocalpros.com/index.phpThats why (if you worry about pr) you should make sure all of your URLs point to the same place. Google sees then as two different places with a different number of backlinks. On your site you have the URLS pointing to http://www.toplocalpros.com/index.php , but when other people link to you they will link to http://www.toplocalpros.com/Thanks for the prompt and greatly explained response!I would also like to know what would happen if I changed where the links are pointing to so that my site shows a PR5, or would this even be possible without losing some of my links? If google sees it as 2 different sites, clearly this cannot be a good thing, can it?I know that PR really does not mean a hill of beans per se, but it certainly helps to reassure my visitors that my site is somewhat popular or at least gives the appearance of being popular. Thanks,Kevin C.When i searched for your URL google showed me the http://www.toplocalpros.com/ url first, so pointing all of your internal URLs to that shouldn't make any difference.Gooogle still knows about the http://www.toplocalpros.com/index.php url, so it will continue to spider and index it, but it should over time focus the majority of PR to the http://www.toplocalpros.com/ URL because thats where all the links will be pointing. What is optimal is to have all links pointing to the same place. However, in case you forget a few, you could help all non-local links (links to your site from other sites) point to the same place by redirecting.I.e. I could point http://xona.com/index.html to http://xona.com/ via an .htaccess redirect.Does this make sense? Anyone do this?Just thinking about this more, if you are using a CMS (like I am) and have a CMS that "likes" to link to the "index.html" instead of without, it makes it hard to ensure that all your links point to the same location.I have tried using a 301 redirect form domain.com/index.php to domain.com, But firefox didn't display the site and said "this site is redirecting in a way that will never end"..If it is possible somehow i would love to know about it..Oh, thanks for posting that. If I try it out, I'll have to be sure to test IE & Firefox (something I should always do anyway!)I would love to know a solution, as well.I did some research on my question about redirecting my PR3 site to my higher index.php PR5 link for my homepage and found this great program that will create a HTML code to do the redirect with a page telling the visitor they are being redirected or, a javascript code that will change the page instantly without the visitor even knowing they were redirected. My concern is that I don't want to be banned or penalized by Google for using a javascript redirect since this would be preferred over the HTML code.Any input on whether this will hurt my rankings or get my site banned by redirecting http://www.toplocalpros.com to http://www.toplocalpros.com/index.php ?Here is the code generator: http://camtech2000.net/Pages/RedirectEm.html Hopefully, others will find this code useful.Thanks,KevinphpBB.com does it.
