Good morning,I have redesigned my website twice and am working on my third. The reason why is I have been struggling to get backlinks to all of my pages. I realized the best way to get backlinks to all my pages is to have a layout that lists them on every page. So I redesigned my a template that has navigation bars on the left and the right running vertically on the page. The main content sits in an editable region in the middle of the page which runs vertically also. I am applying this template to all of the pages and thus creating links to all of the pages on every article | fishing report | ect. My question is will I be penalized for duplicate content or does google not have a problem with links on every page. Do search engines frown on templates? I did this so I can change the template and ad new articles and once it is uploaded the links will appear on every page.Let me knowDoug//moogledI offer you to built the pages with .shtml or .php so you can create static contents as footer.php / header.php / menu.php and you may stick them to your everysubpages with <!--#include file="header.php" --> so you dont need to update everypage when you want to add backlink or new menu links on your every subpage .I see what you are saying. I am using a template with dreamweaver though so when I change the template ie. the header / footer / menus / add pages to the menus it automatically forces the child pages to inherit the new content. My question is, is this ok with google does it frown on templates and what are the drawbacks. I already have some time in developing the template and then I have to cpoy clip all my old pages articles and info into new pages that have the template attached. Before I do all this work I want to know if this is a good way to go about it.DougI do not know what type of integration codes used with Dreamweaver or your template use but if they are based on frames then dont waste your time.Include command works well for your needs . Google will tought the static pages contents are the content of the included pages.Dreamweaver templates are not bases on frames- I almost positive.If it was there would be scroll bars all over the place right?Does anyone else have any knowledge of this conversation?Thanks Dolay!DougWell i use a WYSIWYG and the program i use is very simular to dream weaver. It uses master boarders.Which basically means that is a put a picture in the master boarder then it will automatically do it to all the other pages master boarder. This is not using frames but is done using the include command."My question is, is this ok with google does it frown on templates"...no as long as you not using templates that other people are using...which you are not...you site is unique and you content is you own....your on the right track.As for the dreamweaver stuff...I'm familar with how it handles the changes and it will work fine for updating your naviagtion...although an include file makes you code easier for you to read....The thing to look out for is the new pages and the naming convention. If you keep the same page names and are only chaning the navigation you are ok...If you have created new pages with new names and the same exact content as the old pages you will have trouble.Here's what I experienced. I have a page mypage.asp I changed the page name so it included keywords mypagewithkeywords.asp...I used the same exact page content as the old page on the new page and it stayed a PR0 for about 3 months...I tried using the google page removal tool but that did not help. It removed the old page from the index but I still had no PR....which meant I lost all my internal links. The site has recovered since but I will not do that again.....build it once build it right...is my new theory...I'm spending a lot more time on planning then I did before.A 301 redirect will help for getting the SE's to see that the old page has moved and the new page is replacing it.
