Some of you are so experienced with web design and lay-out, I was wondering if you'd be willing to give me your thoughts on something. I'm re-doing my home page - changing the text etc., and as I was working on it today, I wondered about something. I have, under all the intro info and the like, some site activities. I recently read in some tips that one shouldn't make thier pages too long, especially their home page. Do you think it would be better to put the site activities on a seperate page and just have the link to them on the bottom of the home page? If you'd care to see how it is now, it's http://www.justjeni.com - you'll see I have the site activities all under the text. But the changed page has a lot less text, so I'm not sure if the activities would make it too long or if they wouldn't get used as much etc., if I put them on a seperate page. right now I'm getting a lot of interaction on the quiz's and such and don't want to lose that.
I hope this made sense, if not, feel free to ask me any questions if you're willing to give me your thoughts. I really respect the opinion of those who frequent this board.True, some visitors do not like long home pages. Maybe you could try to implement a nav bar like the one at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/topnavbar.htm Then you can put your more important links on the bar and keep you page short.Hey Jeni,

I don't think removing those 3 links will make your page substantially shorter. If you are getting a lot of interaction on those links, I would leave them right where they are. If ain't broke, don't fix it.wh - what??? I'm so embarrassed, but I didn't understand any of that - how would that look on the page that code? Gosh I've a long ways to go, haven't I?! I really tried to figure out what that bar was, but I'm still on tables...sigh. Sorry - I'm such an annoying novice...

Kman - good point. And I've shortened the text on the home page significantly, too. I'm sick of looking at it myself and I really don't think people want to read that much text on a home page - I just can't decide if it looks too messy or not. When I get the new page loaded, which I'll probably do tonight yet, maybe I'll come back and ask what you think again - seeing it is easier to really help make a decision.
Thanks so much, both of you, for giving me your thoughts - it is so appreciated! The top nav bar is something like the bar the top of the Microsoft website. Perhaps your links can be put there to shorten your site.whkoh - I think that one is a little beyond me right now although it sure sounds slick! I bookmarked the site so if I (hopefully) get that far it will make more sense to me and I can play with it. I really like the sound of it.
Say people, I uploaded the new page lay-out and was wondering if you'd mind taking a look again and seeing if maybe I should put those activities on a new page or if you think the page is okay as is? I hate to impose, but as I always say, you're opinion mean a lot to me because I know you have so much more experience. Sure appreciate it when you're willing to help - I have no one I can ask.
http://www.justjeni.com - and you can be blunt, I think I can take it. :eek:Hi Jeni,

Your page looks OK to me. When I looked there were two images that would not display in the center of the page.

I recommend you dump the "award of elegance" link. Nobody cares about that and the page it links to is horrible.

Regards,
