Opera layout - positioning absolutely

when i got my weekly newsletter from c|net this week, i kinda panicked. it seems that Opera is gaining some users lately.

it's a cool browser, but i can't figure out how to position an element absolutely. for example, see www.tecumsehallclassreunion.com/template.html - the top menu should be aligned for a perfect fit, stretching from the top left to the top right.

but Opera thinks i don't care so much about the
tag! there's a margin in there!

i'm not bothering with WebTV, but THIS i've gotta fix.

anyone know the secret word to get Opera to position things absolutely? TIA...
Download Opera (http://Download .cnet.com/Download s/0-3364666-108-21482.html)as far as I know and the last I heard, Opera was just like NS4.xx on CSS. and I have never had any luck working with opera. I d/l awhile ago and the interface sucked, it made my site suck, and it just plain sucked. :P
