Number of links vs well developed site with a theme

What has people experience been with the importance of the number of links to your site, vs. a well developed site with a theme. Also, what has your experience been with themes. I have seen sites that deliberately have about 100 hidden pages especially for the purpose of creating a theme. Speeking of links ponpots I dont think you can have more than 2 links from your sign.The sig links don't show up as backlinks.I've noticed that beyond PR and backlinks that the size of a site...how many pages it has in the index...can make a difference. Look at this...very spammy: "http://www.ladnb.com/oregon_ranch_brokers.htm"They show up #4 in a search I compete for. I have an entire section of my site dedicated to the topic. The site above only has one page...but their site is 27,000+ pages...mostly just like the one above. All they do is change the title and some h1 tagged text...add a few links scraped from the SE's and they have a new page...no links to it other than internal and not very optimized content.Got this in a news letter today: "In simplest terms PR is calculated by the sharing of PR from all the IBL links to your page. This is not strictly accurate because Google also uses the internal links within a site in the calculation of PR. Each link to a page carries with it and passes PR value to the target page.
