Number of keywords

Since I didn't have any meta tags I just added them. But I have 10 keywords. You think that's a good amount for my site? And I'm getting more affiliates and writing the URL's down so I know who they are and can check up on my link every now and then. Is there anything else I can do? I'm getting ready for this update.Make sure that your keywords do reflect what is actually on that page. Most search engines don't place much emphasis on your keyword list, but will index your
, meta Description, and stuff in the
to
tags. Optimise these on a page-by-page basis. Trying to optimise for ten keywords is probably a few too many for one page. See this for some useful advice as well: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html .The more keywords you put, the better serch results you'll get.rjlstar has a point, the more keywords you have the bigger target of surfers you have.

A ten keyword list is a good start for a whole site, but I would expand on it, try to aim for a base of at least 20 to 30 keywords, then if for some reason the site takes a hammering in the search engines and a few of your keywords dont bring the results in you have other KW's to fall back on.

Also if you have the keywords in your URL can get get brilliant results: www.keyword.com/key-word.html

The title,
, , are also what the spiders look at, and a good amount of descriptive text with a good keyword density through out the page.

Good anchor text for inbound and outbound links is needed as well.>> The more keywords you put, the better serch results you'll get <<

Where you putting these? The keywords meta tag is ignored by many search engines, as spammers have tried to use it to manipulate results by including words that have nothing to do with the actual site content. More is not better, you should optimise each page for several keywords by using them in
to
tags, alt attributes on img tags, the
element and so on. You should not use the same keywords on each page, nor try to include too many per page....for a whole site...

I said for a whole site :)

A spider will go through a site and look for text that is visualy striking, it will look at all text that would normaly stand out on a page, they will normaly only look at
or
tags, but wont go down to
.

If you have a look through here theres a nice little ranking table to show which is the most important:
Yep and the chances of not getting listed in search engines is pretty high.
