I know about slices and their purpose, however, I am confused about a performance aspect. I have created a few pages from Fireworks then into Dreamweaver, uploaded the pages and called them from the browser and everything works fine. The PROBLEM is I hate the way that the slices load! The slices load across the page and assemble, of course once in memory the pages refresh in a blink and the slices are not noticeable. I have view many and varied sites and when the page loads IT JUST APPEARS.. Little to no slices visible to the load, pop and it is there.... Am I doing something wrong, or can I do something better???? Please HELP
It's likely you could optimize the file size of your images to help speed things up. For instance, see the two attached images. One I saved with (via The GIMP) with 95% quality and 40% smoothing, for a file size of 56kb. The second with 30% quality and 30% smoothing for only 13kb, or less than 1/4th the size of the original. Yet the visual difference is quite minimal.
