The purpose and use are obvious from the context - Within a <a > it was added alongside a relative src=http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/archive/index.php/" " to give the absolute address of the file.<br />

I wonder if there is more to know? A search of this forum and htmlgoodies showed no matches!<br />
