navigation 'active' states?

im making a navigation for the different categories of vbulletin, and im trying to figure out how to add class="active" on the category link that's currently in use; for example, if you're in site.com/general-discussion (i use vbseo), how would you get vbulletin to add class="active" to the navigation link for general discussion?

hope that makes sense. ive tried figuring it out with templating, but am unable to.

Sorry let me better explain:

If the page you're on is site.com/red, I'd like the body to have a class="red", and site.com/blue would put class="blue" on the body. This way I can control the navigation depending on the page.

Is there a way to do this without making a custom PHP plugin?
