\n \r new line character does not work in my php programmer [closed]

when i use \[code\]\n\[/code\] or \[code\]\r\[/code\] instead of \[code\]<br>\[/code\] the \[code\]\n\[/code\] and \[code\]\r\[/code\] not work at all i did look for php.ini file and change the setting of auto-detect-newline-character=0 to 1 and 1 to o (on to off and vice-versa).please help.there is no way out. helping with example is best for me.thanks.
