move site from domain to sub-dom

ok guys, here's the deal... I have a nulled 3.7.2 on my .com and I am loving it!

I want to keep it though and not have to worry about getting caught so, I am going to purchase a licence @ the end of the month.

at the moment my site is on the root and when I get my licenced one, I want to put it in a sub-dom of /forum so, (I am thinking this is correct) once I upload and installed my legal copy to /forum do I then edit the config.php file and tell it to use the mysql I am using already?...
I want to keep all posts, categories, members etc etc...

Whats the best way of doing this please people ?...

ManyThanks

Moving to /forum is moving to a sub directory not a sub domain. When you go legit simply upload all your legit vb php files over the nulled ones. Then replace the legit config with the nulled one, and in most cases your current settings will be fine(in config). You will need to update the cookie settings in vb options in the admin cp to releate to /forum.

A sub domain would be like forum.site.com but site.com/forum is just moving to a sub directory.

oh, ok was getting the two mixed up sorry :)

I read on another site that I could just install the legit one into /forum with its own database etc (like a fresh install) then just copy fields across between mysql database's?
would that be easier?

In that case i suggest using Impex. Since your looking to copy multiple tables this will be the best way and cuts out the need for using phpmyadmin which can be a hassle at times. Plus it walks you through the process and lets you choose which db tables you want to copy.

In the end though unless you need to get rid of alot of mods installed then my first suggestion was the best.

ok, just so I know exactly what I am doing lol, I will:
1) Install nulled copy into /forum and make sure it all works.
2) Copy legit files over the top of the nulled in /forum (apart from config.sys)
3) copy my nulled config.sys into the now legit /forum

Isn't it though the config.sys that holds your legit licence number etc for vbulletin to check?
