I am trying to update style sheets in ipb and ipb tells me i have to chmod /css and /cache/css_7.css, but server will not let me do it. It tells me this

QUOTE

550 Could not change perms on /public_html/forums/cache/css_7.css: Bad file descriptor
Server does not support attribute modifications
Failed [Server does not support attribute modifications]

why?
Thomas, when are you getting this error? When trying to update (save) the changes?

Have you changed the permissions of the cache folder (777) and the .css file (666) before trying to update? You need to do this temporarily before making the changes and then change them back.

If file manager or your ftp client won't allow you to make those changes please open a help desk ticket and have one of techs have a look. You should be able to change perms on those.
I did my changes in css, clicked the update (dont remeber the word it said right now). It told me i had to check chmod for /css and /cache/css_7.css.
/css went fine (was gonna temporarily change to 777) but css_7.css refused to change from 644 to 777.

I纾峫 try in a little while again. If its not working i submit that ticket.
The file doesn't need to be 777 it should be 666. Read/write for everyone.

Now Im really lost.
I submitted a ticket, copied what i had posted here (lazy me ) and Jacob answer this:

QUOTE

You are not given shell access on our servers. Thank you.
Please let me know if I could be of any further assistance

Is shell access what i need/want?
No, you don't need shell access to do that. Just reply to the ticket and tell him you cannot change permissions on the file you are trying to chage permissions on. Are you trying to change them with file manager or an ftp client?
FTP.

I did reply asking how I can have changed css folder but not the file. Waiting for answer from them/him.
Thomas, I am curious. What version of IPB are you running? I have 1.3 installed on my site but there is no "css" folder. I have a "cache" folder.
Version 1.3
And Im sorry, I did a typo, I ment cache not css.
Hm, Jacob answered right after i had made my last post. He says he can change without problems, so it looks to be a problem with my computer/ftp i think.
Hmm, got me here. Could it be an ownership problem.
Jaocb got it solved. Here纾
