Microsoft Word adding close tags (unwanted)

Hello!

Small problem for future...but large problem for present, and past.

After creating an HTML file in notepad, then opening in WORD, Word somehow automatically adds closing tags to my text "less than signs" in the html code.

I realize that for the future I could just use the character code less than signs "<", but for now, there are 100's of html documents with this problem.

Is there a way to STOP Word from adding close tags when the less than sign in this is NOT an opening tag??

Thanks for any help??Word does a lot of annoying things. To the best of my knowledge there is no option to stop this behavior. Better to take the plunge now and use < instead. In the long run you might be better off using CSE HTML Validator (http://www.htmlvalidator.com/) it is a text editor desighned for use with HTML. It will validate your HTML and won't do anything automatically. It also has an iotion to add tags for you (if you want). However (the lite version anyway) isn't as strict as the W3C validator service (http://validator.w3.org/) but still it is more useful then Notepad or MS Word.Using WORD is your real problem. Get HTML-kit and forget the word processor.
