Matching .gif background color to page background

I am trying to match the background color of a .gif file with the background of my webpage.

I have gotten the Red, Green, Blue color codes of the background of the webpage, gone to a program that allows for .gif editing, changed the background of the .gif to the 3 numbers and saved accordingly. However, the colors don't blend or match up... any idea why? (it's a similar color, but not even close to a match)

If no easy solution, is there anyone that i can email the file (small) to and have them save with a transparent background (i don't think i have software to save with a tranparent background, which i think will solve this problem).

Thanks.I found a solution to the above and figured i'd post it in case somebody else is in the same situation down the road.
There is a good online .gif editor GIFWorks.com (http://www.gifworks.com) that allows you to set the background to transparent. The great thing about this program is that it requires on Download , it's all done online! Only problem is that my file was 4.6Kb and they have a file limit of 4.0Kb, so it didn't work for me (also, they only support .gif formats)

I continued my search and came across MyImager.com (http://www.myimager.com) which supports much larger file sizes and also supports a few other formats (maybe .jpg and something else?) Worked like a charm although just slightly less intuitive than the first program (i had to try it twice to get it the way i wanted).
Transparenct background is the best solution for me so that i can easily change backgrounds of the header in the future if i want to do so.
I recommend either of the above sites/programs, but don't run the pop-up stuff that appears on the screen as it's not needed, and probably contains spyware (ie- Gator, etc)or you could Download yourself an image editing program in which you could use gif's transparency, it's not limited to those sites you used, all gifs can be transparent. But well done on coming back and posting your solution, alot of people just come back and say something like 'nevermind found it myself'. :)Originally posted by leoo24
I'm one of those that hates to d/l stuff on their computer that only gets used once a year.... even d/l and then deleting messes around with the registry too much for my likes.

Yes, i too hate it when you only hear from people when there's a problem, or they figure it out and never come back at all. I figured that if i had the problem, somebody else too will need a solution down the road, so i always try to follow up my posts.
I've only been writing HTML for about 2 weeks and just found this site a couple of days ago when i was really stuck... it seems like a great resource and has been bookmarked.
