I'm looking for a managed server provider that has servers located in Canada (non-negotiable). Any recommendations? I know about Netnation and used them years ago for regular hosting, but don't know how good their managed hosting is. Looking for reliability, and a higher level of management since I'm not a sys admin. Money is potentially not an issue. The main criteria is reliability and access to support. Thanks!A quick Google search yielded some fairly decent looking results but I've never dealt with a managed server company based in Canada so I can't really give you any recommendations. Hit Google with 'Canadian Managed Hosting', you'll just have to sory through the American companies who show up because they offer service in Canada.Check out Netelligent http://www.netelligent.ca This is who I get my server from. Its a managed server and you can get different levels of management for money of course.
Now personally I haven't used the management part that comes with the account as I got a third party to do it for me (Acunett) and I just keep Netelligent as a backup.
I did put in a couple of network related tickets and they were all answered with in 10 min. Thanks for the info. How long have you been with them?sljohnston,The primary problem you'll run into is a large amount of providers (at least any that would be known on WHT) have their infrastructure in the US where it tends to be a tad bit less expensive. At any rate, my recommendation would be to check into someone like prioritycolo.com & see if Myles is willing to offer a management package on top of the systems.Beyond that, I'm all out of ideas Thanks for the info. How long have you been with them?
I've been with them for almost 7 months.sljohnston, The primary problem you'll run into is a large amount of providers (at least any that would be known on WHT) have their infrastructure in the US where it tends to be a tad bit less expensive. Beyond that, I'm all out of ideas Thanks, this definitely is another option, but more a last resort There is also a possibility that we may get a deal with IBM through the organization that we're affiliated with (we're a research unit)...I don't read much about them here, so if anyone has good/bad thoughts I'd be interested in them too. Thanks, this definitely is another option, but more a last resort
May I ask what the reasoning behind this requirement? (Google SEO?).May I ask what the reasoning behind this requirement? (Google SEO?). Do you mean the requirement of needing a server in Canada? If so, basically the Patriot Act. And "politically" we are "encouraged" to have our information located in Canada.Do you mean the requirement of needing a server in Canada? Government won't do anything to your web page, All they use that patriot act for is to violate the freedoms of people suspected to be terrorists, so they can label them terrorists and arrest them, unless of course you are a terrorist, then you probably shouldn't even get hosting in North America.PriorityColo is a sure bet.I'd say you get a dedicated server $120 CA. Then purchase a server management from PSM $29 If you're looking for exceptional service and are willing to pay for it, then I'd suggest PriorityColo (http://www.prioritycolo.com).
Though it's not an ideal situation, it may be more economical to get a dedicated server in Canada and then hire an outside firm to manage it. I wouldn't do it with my own server, but it's an option. You could give Fusepoint a try. They are definitely not the cheapest and their facility, which I toured, is mighty impressive. If the patriot act is a concern of yours, having the server in Canada is not going to make much difference.I say go with iweb, they are great and a Canadian company.www.prioritycolo.com without a doubt. I have had a managed server with Myles and gang for over 5 years. Top shelf provider. You simply can't go wrong.VitoWhile Canadian providers are far less common and have much less of a presence here on WHT, there are a bunch around. I know we aren't the only ones offering it out of our Vancouver colo facility and can think of at least one WHT member who is a cage over from us .If the patriot act is a concern of yours, having the server in Canada is not going to make much difference.
How so? Canada has pretty strict privacy laws. For now the man still requires a court order/warrant to wiretap/monitor any Canadian phone/electronic communications.
The partiot act has as much enforcement here as do US anti drugs laws. Wanna smoke a joint?Hi,

Really? Are you sure? Who measured this and how was it measured?http://www.canadawebhosting.com/managed-hosting-infrastructure/no-downtime-network.aspSays they guarantee 100% uptime. I can't find actual stats anywhere.
