or lots of content but not many pages?
I ran across a few sites with 20,000 plus pages but most pages were just a picture and a short paragraph about the authors thoughts.
My Question: Better to have lots of pages or lots of content on less pages. whats better in the long run for seo?
thanks In my experience, in between is best. You want to have plenty of unique pages since each one is a potential doorway into your site. But there should be at least a few paragraphs per page.
In my experience, deciding how many pages you should have based on what would be easiest for your visitors is also helpful with search engines. With too little content, visitors and spiders alike will leave without viewing many pages. You'll get a high bounce rate and short visits. But you don't want too much on a page. Then people and bots have to search on that page for what they want. I have to agree, you have to find the mix that you feel is right. I was reading a blog post the other day, and I wish I could remember the link to share it, and the writer said that he had to step back and look to see if he would read his own blog. The first time he asked the answer was no, so he changed his writing, and the way he presented his information and from there his blog grew. It is the same with your website, step back and look at it from you visitors perspective. The main question you need to ask yourself is that if you came across the site, would you stay and look around or would you leave. If you say leave, then you need to work on the things that you think would make you change your mind. This will go along way in helping you decide the way you are presenting your information. Lots of content with less pages is not a pretty good idea....
Its better if add more pages with less content with some acceptable amount of images... Because no one will read your page that has some 2000 or 5000 words.. No one!!!
It will be good if you divide your information into multiple pages..
Some benefits,
1. Good experience for user
2. Each page you create targets more than one keywords
3. It increases the chances of more pages getting indexed by the search engines.
4. You can get backlinks for via different pages (which is far better than getting many backlinks for one page only)
5. Chances of getting multiple listing on SERP....
6. Much stable rankings I dont think pages with much content would do good in serp. Pages need to have content. Thats how bots know what the page is about. With Google's move against low quality content sites I'd veer towards fewer pages with more content if you're targeting the same keyword on those pages. Otherwise I'd get more details on those pages. I try to shoot for at least 500 words per page so that there is enough content to keep a visitor on the page. If I break a subject up into multiple pages, I try to link the pages logically (i.e. provide related links at the end or spread throughout the page.)
The more pages you have will high quality original content, the more weight google will provide for your site. So my answer is to create a lot of pages with a good amount of content on each page. You can hire out the content creation or just grow the site over time. Search engines will focus more on content to present to people when they do searches. High quality content is the key, so the more of it you have the wider your grasp will be on the search results. Now, what you should focus on is generating small amounts of great material and then add more pages if necessary. You can have 10,000 pages with junk on it but it won't help you with page ranking. There are several smaller sites that rank higher in the search results because it all comes down to content.
So, in the long run, less pages with great content will do better than larger websites with poor quality content.
