In my efforts to build links for my health insurance, things seemed to be going smooth, until suddenly last week I dropped from 2200 links in Google, to 1359, then today to 3256 in Yahoo from 7931!!
What could possibly be going on? We have a company building links for us, or had anyways...
I have a content writer writing content and blasting it out (unique content) to different article directories.
I just don't understand whats going on.
Suggestions? Anyone? I am totally lost at this point, We have never actually been over 1300ish in Google, and finally hit 2000+ all the sudden to be dropped back down. What could have happened? We haven't made any significant changes! There are errors in the Yahoo software from time to time, it's happened to my site as well, only to see the links return in a few days.
The company may have done a lot of blog commenting as well which had artifically inflate backlink numbers as many blogs have a recent comments feature. Once you aren't the most recent comment, you may lose hundreds of links and be left with only the 1 comment link that was left.
There is some natural link attrition due to sites closing etc, nothing like that though.
They may have purchased links as well. No link checker is accurate. Also it depends where they built the links. For example if they concentrated on profile links on forum software, and then an upgrade of that software
