Hi, I run a busy perl/mysql website and am looking for an experienced web host to provide a managed dedicated server. My needs are: Dual Opteron/Xeon2 GB MemoryHardware Raid 1 - Dual Sata 50GB+Remote Reboot500GB+ bandwidthRemote Backup - daily - database, system, files etc. - 20GBShould Have cold spare for hardware problems.Tier 1 Datacenter - Redundant connectivity, electricity etc.High quality Bandwidth8 IP AddressesPerl/Mysql/ApacheDont need rood access. Do require host to setup following:1. Two apache instances, one responding to port 80, second to port 9999 (only accessible from within the server). This second server will run mod_perl and some scripts will be sent to the second server by mod rewwrite rules running in the first one.2. Install Perl Modules and some other applications3. Host needs to perform regular system software updates pactching4. Host to monitor server5. Support to ensure uptime, install new modules etc. I would prefer to have a host in the New England area.ThanksGaganWhat's your budget for this?Your budget for this type of system will be very important, if you want to be pointed in any direction. You will require a substantial budget nonetheless.Have Been thinking of something in the $300-$500/mo range. Does that sound right? That may be possible if you lean more towards the $500 side. The setup fees for the RAID setup will be maybe $100 and the price will go up by $100/month for it as well. As far as 500GB of bandwidth, you'd be hard pressed to find that. I think the lowest you will get is 1000GB of transfer. Basically, be prepared to spend closer to $500/month rather than $300.Ayksolutions are you thiking of SCSI or SATA? Once we are all setup we have very little regular work. I have a quote from RackSpace for this for $600/mo. However they will not take care of any custom admin stuff/maintenance. Fastservers.net seems like another good choice. $549 gets me a dual xeon 73GB SCSI/RAID 1 plus 5 hours of custom admin each month. I can svae $50 each month by dropping from 5 to 2 hours after the first month. ThanksGaganGagan,There are many Internet hosts that will be able to suit your needs, your best bet is to probably stick local though, as you will be able to acquire better support levels. Where abouts are you based?I agree. Local would be great. We are n Massachussets.Have you priced renting a server from somewhere local and then hiring an admin to do the setup and the custom configs you need? That is always another choice.I thought of that...and the price works great....however I wasnt able to find an admin/company who would take care of the server evenings/weekend etc....and thats something I have been concerned about.I just sent you a PM. Many quality options here in New England.
