Hi Everyone,

We are developing a highly secure web application, those on level on a banking application.

I need a one stop solution to provide the following:

-Secure Powerful Dedicated Linux Server
-Firewall
-Top-notch intrusion detection system
-Pro-Active managed Admin services, focusing on the security aspect
-Premium SSL Certificate

Can you help me out on the following?

1) Other than rackspace, is there any other provider of the above services?

2) Is there anything I am missing out on in the specs? what else is needed to make the server absolutely secure? apart from obviously building a solid bullet-proof app.

Thanks in advance.

Also let us know your budget for the same so that we can assist you further.u could follow vinsar ideas if u are looking for one stop solution other wise place a server at the best data centres and try 3rd party managment solutions ..most of the companies he has advised also provide server managment options alsoHi,

Thanks for your message.
Looking to host it in USDo you need Windows or Linux as the operating system? He said -Secure Powerful Dedicated Linux Server in the opening post.BTW Arjun, I won't recommend a one stop shop for server solutions need, its better to have server/hardware from a DC directly, hire a server management company to manage & secure the server as per your needs and SSL you can get form any company among so many. Its like don't put all the eggs in one basket.Hi Everyone, We are developing a highly secure web application, those on level on a banking application. You can have a good server (hardware) and management, but if the box is not connected to a good back-end network (carrier), then I think you won't be serving too many hits on it. Secondly, you have to consider data loss mitigation - in terms of your backup / disaster recovery! With what you have in mind, I would definitely concentrate on those crucial aspects. Finally, I would suggest you getting a server / management analysis for your requirements to be carried out. Any good provider will do one for you which you can generally use as a "benchmark" to get quotations or plan your approach from. All the best.I contacted all 3 of the below by email since they do not have a sale phone number on website:

axishost
jonesolutions
a2b2

Any other recommendations? I have made contact only with RackSpace so far, and they are little too pricey.

Do they have a support telephone number?Something to consider if you can't get a hold of a "person" on the phone - makes all the difference if anything goes wrong, and considering the type of site / application you will be having, I think you definitely need something like that! Dig deepeer ...RackSpace is not living up to its reputation now days, search WHT about there issues. Some names I can think of:http://www.gigenet.comhttp://www.fastservers.nethttp://www.gnax.comBTW Arjun if you and your server users are located in India, then its good if you get New York or Chicago based servers they are faster for us.Also have a look at this thread http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=610473 quite interesting.I'm based in the silicon valley, and customers are going to be global, over 1 million by 2008With that many users using the service by 2008, you should make sure your host will allow you to scale your hosting platform at anytime aswell. A single server probably (most likely, won't) won't support that many users. What is your application built on?Well Arjun for that many users, just as Josh mentioned above, you will need a load balanced HA cluster where servers are distributed across various DCs. And that is not going to be a budget or economy solution definitely. While you are searching for the server, SSL etc. I will also suggest you to get hold of a competent consultant specialising in such kind of setup.Do a search on loadbalance HA cluster etc here on WHT or google you will get lot of information to go with.Hi Everyone, We are developing a highly secure web application, those on level on a banking application. 2) Is there anything I am missing out on in the specs? what else is needed to make the server absolutely secure? apart from obviously building a solid bullet-proof app. Thanks in advance.Arjun Am i the only one that is worried thats these two comments conflict like crazy. A 'secure web application' is only as secure as what you use to run it. So you cant make such a thing without knowing a lot about web security and from '2)' it seems that area of knowledge is very limited. I get the feeling you are out of your depth? (not trying to be nasty)axishost does some wonderful managed servers for people with a budget else peer1 is too good.Running RoR...Hi Everyone,

If rackspace is too expensive, then you need to re-think this whole one-stop shop requirement. Why not try going to platinumservermanagement.com? They are fantastic!! Do you have a control panel??Your best bet is to host at a well staffed data center with a high performance network. Many hosting companies provide a baseline box with mild security, but for many customers that is not enough. I would definitely recommend a server management company to come in and secure the box to a higher degree.Colocation with a private rack, owned hardware, and hiring your own management and security staff is the only way I'd embark on something involving "1 million+" users and "banking like application". In fact, you might even want to do background checks on your staff.

Leaving all of that data in the hands of a dedicated server provider, is just, scary.
