Ok so simply what are they?
What are some good sites to use for this? wordpress.com not .org?
Are they looked down upon by SEO?
Do you need to submit these site to google as well?
Any other tips or techniques for using link wheels? good questions..i'd like to know also! Link wheel is when you create 15-20 or more blogs/micro sites and have one link going to your main site and another link going to the next blog/micro site.
There is lots of sites you can use for example: blogger, ezine, squidoo, hubpages, weebly, wordpress, vox and like I said much more. Yep, pretty much what Amy said. If you can picture a bicycle wheel, your money site would in the center of the wheel, and each spoke out would be connecting it to a micro site. Each of these micro sites is not only linked to your money site, but is linked to the spoke (micro site) next to it. The micro sites are linked all the way until you are finished and your first site is finally linked to your last site (creating a "wheel").
I tend to stick to about 5-7 micro sites per linkwheel. You can also do more than one link wheel, or you can do a link wheel for a good article (which in turn that article points to your money site).
I'm sure my explanation is somewhat confusing if you're brand new to this. It's a lot easier to explain visually. bdunndchi:

Any other tips or techniques for using link wheels? Basically a link wheel is a link method of linking different web 2.0 website to one another to simulate a "unsolicited link" effect or create a "natural look" on how links are naturally spread around the internet.
Quote: a link wheel leverages the power of highly ranked Web 2.0 sites to build targeted backlinks back to your sites. This works because certain Web 2.0 properties like Hubpages, Squidoo, WordPress, and others allow you to publish your own content on these sites AND allow you to add your own backlinks to this content as well. Google loves these sites and often times your posted content can rank very well on their own.
