I have a simple question that I have seen different awnsers to. Does google count links that are going through links.htm or whatever other extension? I've heard both sides of the arguement and was looking if anyone has some straight definitive facts. Thanks.I heard the same kind of argument. I would play it safe and call your links page something besides "links".I think it's just rumors right now. But a lot of talk about it in the forums.Google is indeed indexing and counting links from those pages, but nolonger passing PR from any page named links.*. If you name your pagelinks1.* or something else, there is no issue. I would suggest namingyour links page other-webs or something.I have just recently starting do some "links" pages for a few clients. I only link within my business area, mostly sites that are in the same DMOZ category. I have called my page "other resources".I'd be quite surprised if google was doing this, honestly.there are tons of perfectly reasonable reasons to have a links page, and too many ways to get around this filter if that were the case.So is it pointless to link with another site if the sole purpose is to gain PR if the link coming to you is on the links.htm page?that's the way things are right now, yes.Do you know if the same applies to things inside a links folder? like /links/whatever.htm ?i don't think so. I think it's only the pages' names themselves. At least that makes sense to me. But I'm not 100% TBH.no one even knows that there IS a penality.personally I think people are just being paranoid. but yes, if you're worried about it, just changed it to resources.html or otherhelp.html etc.If google is not passing PR from a links.html on your own site. Wouldn't that be a good thing for you? Wouldn't the only issue be whether or not you should worry about getting a link to your site from someone else's links.html page?I think to be on the safe side, you should use resources.html, or something like thatWouldn't it be easy to change you own links page to links.htm and hoard all the PR that would be leaking from the page normally?Well, I can't go denying people link exchanges through links.htm pages if I have one myself.
