I'm a newbie so dont get mad.
I want to make a links page with multiple categories, random spotlight site, user comments, form for adding sites and some more. I thought this would only be possible to make in a database, so I figured this was my perfect opportunity to learn MySQL and Php. The database is going to be MySQL because I think that抯 the most used one, and the only one my server supports.
I抳e made a basic layout of the site in Photoshop. Its here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dybdahl.org/nicolai/linksite.gif">http://www.dybdahl.org/nicolai/linksite.gif</a><!-- m --> . It has a logo on every site. Under that it抯 a random spotlight site from the database together with a picture. Then there is going to be an alphabetical listing of every site in the database. Here there will be no pictures (to save loading time). On right there will be links to the other categories, in alphabetical order. The category the user is currently in is highlighted in red.
I figured I needed two databases for this to work one for each category with the following items: image url, name of site, url of site, rating of sit (in numbers. 1 star per number), description of site. I think I also need a database with the links to the categories or something, but I抦 not sure about that. Could somebody answer that?
I also want users to post comments about sites, so that every site has it抯 site of it抯 own with the comments. The Administrator should be able to delete posts and ban member (I抦 not sure how, maybe ip banning or something?). The users should be able to post their rating of the site, but this will not affect the rating on the category pages. Maybe some feature would be to include last site reviewed on the mainpage?whit the name, email of the person and the site name and image and url.
I also would very much like a form to easy add sites to the database with the sam fileds as the database (ofcourse). Also editing and deleting of sites would be good, but not necessary.
So I think that sums it up. That was an incredibly long post.

I believe they have MySQL support and phpAdmin if im not mistaken.
