Link Exchanges Ineffective

I was reading on a SEO related site that link exchanges are not very effective. Does a link exchange backlink count less than a one way backlink?Yeah, it's because of one simple thing: Google is smarter than you.In fact, collectively, the brains at Google are smarter than anybody on the planet. That means it's going to take you a hell of a lot of work to trick their search engine.Getting links from a couple decent PR sites might help you a slight amount, but not if they are text-ads or grouped with other links. They get filtered out if they don't look unique, so they aren't counted towards PR. If you have links from 50+ sites then that's going to help your ranking a decent amount, but you'll probably get more traffic out of those links directly.Link exchanges are essentially useless. If site A links to site B and that's the only outbound link, and site B links to site A, and that's it's only outbound link, then they both will simply be shrugged off by Google. Hell, if I own 100 sites with PR0 and you own 100 sites with PR0 and we link our 100 sites to each other, we effectively, yet inefficiently, accomplished nothing as far as Google is concerned. The absolute BEST way to get high rankings in a search engine is to have a site people want to visit. Make your title clear, people look at it first. Make sure your site is easy to use and people like it. Make sure that spiders can read your page and make sure they can really hone-in on your keywords. Then just promote it to other people.PS: Google weighs a lot of search-result-position on how many people click through on your link at Google as the last link they clicked on for that search. For example, if you search for toilet paper on google and you click through the first, third, fourth, fifth, and ninth links, in that order, the ninth link will be noticed by Google and results will reflect that on the next query for that term. Obviously now, a single click isn't going to boost you, but if you have 5-10 for a relatively obscure keyword, it could bring you right to the top. That explains a lot. So Google is not an effective advertising medium then. And Wikipedia destroys any description I create because I don't have media coverage. So the only thing left is forums and topsites which arent that effective. And almost every forum has a nofollow thing so it doesn't count.Oh but I sure am getting a much better linking on MSN. Yahoo hates me! And linked lower on Google Canada than Google.com.Thanks for the suggestions....but does anyone have ideas on to which site or SE are better to do paid submission .?The competitors of one my site http://www.loansolutioncenter.com have done done paid submission to many of the sites and search engines .... but they have spent a lot of bugs .... and our budget is not that large at this time ...Waiting for the suggestions...ThanksI think a moderator should split this topic, unless I am missing the relation to what I have posted.Quote:I guess what I meant to say is Google is not effective at advertising a new website, you need to make it big first. Any idea how I could do that?Azoundria wrote:The main purpose of link exchange is more traffic - but that rarely happens unless you get a good placement on their site and they have plenty of traffic interested in visiting your site.
