I read in another thread that instead of using tables try using CSS.

When doing this for the puroses of keeping the content of a page from exceeding the screen limits (ie someone viewing the page at a 800x600 resolution) is it the margins you want to set in the CSS to reflect on the page, or is there something else that would be the equivalent of keeping text in line?

I'm not sure I am really doing it right... but if I have an html doc wiith this line

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href=http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/archive/index.php/"http://www.geocities.com/satyr_child/test.css"/>

If the .css file is in that location, then I should be able to take out any formatting references in the html doc that determines ha is now being done by the css, right?Originally posted by Maximus Prime

I am not sure what you mean. As long as you don't specify width for any element, the content will organize itself to fit the page width without horizontal scrolling.

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href=http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/archive/index.php/"http://www.geocities.com/satyr_child/test.css" />
All the styles in <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.geocities.com/satyr_child/test.css">http://www.geocities.com/satyr_child/test.css</a><!-- m --> will be used to render the HTML page. You don't need to define the style again in the HTML file.You kow how you can keep the text from moving all over the place by putting it in tables? Well, does using the margins have the same effect?

How do you control the placement of text the same wayyou can with tables when using CSS?

Another thing...

I am more or less rebuilding a web page around stupid drop down menus... whie at the same time trying to do everythig in Notepad (for the first time). I amhaving a really hard time keeping the drop down menu [pictures} in line with the other items in the table. As you can probably se the itmes listed next to PIctures are slightly off center (which is driving me crazy). Odds are I have put it in wrong because I pretty much re-wrote a prepared drop down menu and then started building around it... Any suggestions.
