Keyword Phrases - Stupid Question

I'm not sure how to explain this and it will probable not make any sense, but I will try.

Just wondering if it helps multiple keywords in a phrase.

Lets say my main keyword is Eat A Pickle.

Instead of optimizing for just Eat A Pickle and used the phrase Just Eat A Pickle Today

After everything is all said and done could i rank for these keywords.

eat a pickle
eat a pickle today
just eat a pickle Plainly, yes, you should be able to rank somewhere for each of those. They are direct phrases of what you put together, with words located next to one another in each, in sequential phrase order. Of course, success will be measured on other metrics as well, but yes, that is a solid keyword linking structure there. The amount of linking, as in metrics and weight of placement in search results, will vary though of course, depending on the number of words strung together. At least, last I knew, this was correct. Maybe someone else can help verify I didn't loose my mind

Edit:

If memory serves me correctly, you wouldn't potentially rank as highly in relevance with the shorter terms, but you'd rank more highly for the complete anchor text. You will be able to rank for all the keywords and in fact all the keywords that you have on your site.

For example if you search Google with the keyword "click here". You will get get.adobe.com/reader/ at top of the search results. Adobe surely did not optimize their site for that keyword but Google calculated that site to be the most relevant for that keyword.

So you will be able to rank for all of the key words you have stated but your site has to prove it self to Google and other SE's. If your site is very authoritative it might also be to rank for the word pickle at the end. You just have to win in the competition. those keyword phrases should be separately ranked. its good to select the long tail keywords. when you use the keyword phrase in the anchor text or other codes then its seems to be an unique thing to Search engines. they rank your site for that specific phrase. if you add other words or reduce words from the phrase then you have to optimize again for that new phrase. Is it clear?
