I saw in many websites that they are not using title, but they are in top position for many keywords.

Why it happens? what is the technique behind this? Google these days trying to guess the title and description from the site content. some times it ignores the original meta description and title tag.

You may refer to these articles

http://searchengineland.com/google-ignore-the-html-title-tag-more-often-65564 I can think of one thing they probably did, they shared they articles on couple of sites, forums, blogs, etc and linked to them with that keyword

that is just one way...they can use many more..
thanks I think title is important for display on SERPs. Because we can know what 's content of this page. And can increase traffics on your site. I have read many places that Title and H1 tag is about 70% of on page SEO, Mean one of the most important thing in on page SEO is title. Ranking of sites is just because of one reason that Google guess title and description of sites. if you have many information on the page and one keyword is not hard to reach first page google will take your main phrase that contains that keyword and make it something like the description

I have seen sites with PHP errors on page and ranking at better positions then the others.

But as there are many different factors maybe some other factors might be helping it. from title u get some prefer to come in keywords if you do not add keywords in title from this u do more search engine optimization or make backlinks with quality backlinks also... Maybe those sites have good amount of traffic and age factor. Means those sites will have better age then your website that's why they are ranking on top of search engine. But Search engine like to get information about website from title tag. In my opinion title tag should be short but descriptive enough for your visitors to identify you and your business. yes i agree withaddyj672, age factor is maybe playing the role there, and if domain name is old... I know many of you will say that the age of domain is not important...but you should think again guys

Indeed yes, although search engines, these days, can generate their own title to every sites depending to your site content, it is still important that you put your best title in your title tag. Your website is like a library. The titles of your pages are as the titles of books and they need to be accurate for both google and the user that sees it on google.

Recently I have seen some stuff that is out of order on Google. 3-4 links to the same domain and pages with different titles ( as some people have mentioned already). So right now I would say anything you are seeing in Google that is abnormal is just temporary and will get sorted out.

Stick to your titles and not just one page at a time. Look at all your titles and make sure the keywords are all matching the appropriate theme areas. As far as I know your title is very essential and determines very much your ranking for specific keywords, thats a certainty for sure
