Is there a better way to shutdown MySQL?

hi,

i have redhat linux 6.2 running on my PC with PHP3 and MySQL.
whenever i shutdown the system i do not explicitly stop the mysql daemon.
is this ok?

is it necessary for me to "mysql stop" before "halt"?
