Is it good to redirect from a PR2 to not indexed site?

I am going to drop my first site (A PR2) and registered new domain and done the site. I have submitted this new site to google and waiting for it getting indexed. Both have almost same content but with a better look and more functionality. So now I think I should redirect my first domain to the new domain. Is it good or bad in google? Will this help me to get more PR and get indexed fast?please comment. I have seen similar posting here but that was for redirect from a new one to an old higher PR site.Is this an old question answered so many times? Anyway I redirected the old one to the new one for 2 days and I stopped redirecting. after somedays I see my new site listed in yahoo. Also in Rediff.com. I got even 2 fresh visitors. I think as many people said here, no need to submit to any search engine, but they will find you if you have back links Or Page redirects. Still waiting to get listed in google..It can take a while (30-60 days) for Google to start fully indexing your new page.What you want to as as soon as possible is change the content of your old page. My recommendations would be to write an explanation on the old site on where your new site is going and what you have there.You can get penalized by Google if you keep your pages too similar and it can stop your new page from being fully indexed.How come google knows that both are owned by one person? Because of the redirect? Anyway that domain is expiring this month. I wanted to know the page redirect would improve my new sites inclusion and page rank in google. or a link from that PR2 site would be better than a page redirect?Sites are not different much since its a matrimonial site so, there is n't much content in the pages. Content(profiles of members) are in the database and that won't make any sense to google bots I guess so. I am still adding more functionalities to it. I have submitted to dmoz already. I think I should get inbound links from some sites related to matrimony only. like wedding gifts etc.. Don't know much about finding the best keywords and filling it in pages.
