??? Is Google Manipulating Search Rankings to Appease Advertisers ??? The contents of this letter are posted on-line at http://www.geocities.com/gglcnsrshp//there was no need to copy and paste the entire contents of your web page here. You're certainly welcome to your opinion on Google vs. LASIK. Could we have the URL to your site. This way we could see a possible reason you lost your ranking. Google has gone through many many changes in the last year. I am not saying that Google is dropping your site purposely, but there may be another reason.I also believe Google does give leverage to big paying companies. One example is Ebay. No advertiser is allowed to show more that one ad per keyword search, except Ebay, no advertiser is allowed to use copyrighted names, except Ebay does it all the time.Google doesn't bump rankings in the listings for money. They do have the Google Ads, marked clearly and separately in the boxes on the right. Is it possible that since October 2002, other companies have simply created websites that are more optimized for Google than the page you created?October and November marked big changes in search results, and this was actually a time where I think google was trying to limit the effects of spamming on search results by affiliate sites, through which I expect google gets a lot of revenue. Many, many 'spammy' type sites were dropped from high rankings, but unfortunately, also legitimate sites.Google's not perfect. When they try to improve their algorithms, I'm sure they experiment with several key industries, but the only way they can really see the global impact is to 'go live' with their changes. At that point, they're not going to have realized that particular site A or B is hurting, such as your Lasik page.It ain't easy, building a search engine that pleases everyone. I wouldn't take it as a personal attack --- google is most likely going to keep refining its algorithms, so stay tuned to their results.A caution on this one gglcnsrshp - if you are sincerely seeking opinions, then you've come to the right place. But I expect some participation on your part. People have already taken the time to respond to you. If I see nothing posted from you here in 24 hours, this post will get removed as SPAM.Through the life of a search engine, some sites go up and some sites go down. It just happened that your site probably hasnt been optimized to the best it could be and other are now.Eye time before LASIK - on the computer 12-16 hours a day. After LASIK - 4 to 6 hours a day.I don't have the "eye-time" to provide a detailed response to all the responses. A physical limitation of my own that perhaps you need to know about -- a partial disability. Please, cut me some slack, and bear with me.The moderator deletes my post, which was reasonably thoroughly documented and footnoted -- and then admonishes me for not responding to the responses to a deleted post ?I suggest that if this this moderator really wants to facilitate communication, they will do either or both of 2 things -1. Resurrect the original on-topic posting that I wrote, and2. Communicate more clearly to participants, when they register, that this website community likes participants to re-visit their original posts with a certain frequency - about once a day, as it turns out.As expressed in the original post - I am interested in people's feedback on the subject of Google manipulating search rankings to maximize advertising revenue -- as opposed to what I thought was their real goal -- to build the best search engine in the world. For reference, the original post is also on-line athttp://www.geocities.com/gglcnsrshpJust to let you know, I am more familiar with the "old-style" methodology of posting, on-topic, and then coming back and visiting, once a day, once a week, or once a month, as the case may be. Like when you're asking about the effective bandwidth difference between LVD-80 and Ultra-160 SCSI in a single-disk configuration, over on comp.hardware, for example. Or if you want to know about the power supply limitations of Shuttle Small Form Factor systems, over on Anandtech.com ... another example. The definitions of spam which I have previously encounteredUBE - Un-solicited Bulk EmailUCE - Un-solicited Commercial EmailIt sounds like the moderater is suggesting that an Un-solicited Occasional on-Topic Posting is also a variety of Spam. By that criteria, the world is far fuller of Spam than I was previously aware. I don't think that is a useful definition of "Spam" -- it is too general. But I digress, "what is and is not Spam", is not the subject I wanted to address, in this thread. As I expressed in the original post, I perceive that Google is not practicing what it preaches, and that what it practices is governed, more and more, by financial concerns.I cited 2 examples --1. the muzzling of injured LASIK patients, in combination with the selling of ads to LASIK surgeons who have a habitual practice of denying the existence of injured LASIK patients.2. What happened to Oceana.orgWhat DID happen to Oceana.org ? Well, the moderator deleted that information, when they deleted the original post. Reference URL --http://www.geocities.com/gglcnsrshpAlso, in my original post, I suggested that, if enough examples of Censorship -- the muzzling of injured LASIK patients, the Oceana.org example -- are discovered, that an anti-trust investigation of Google may be appropriate. One of the purposes of the original post was to "beat the bushes" -- to hear about other examples of Google censorship, which surely exist. I am but one person and have identified 2 such examples, without turning it into a masters thesis.I am now curious -- does the Moderator have their own agenda -- to control the conversation, vis a vis Google, for example ?I am also curious -- does the Moderator have the intellectual honesty to allow this thread to continue ? Can the Moderator accept that I have limited time, without insisting that I re-visit the thread every 24 hours ?Man, you really are a conspiracy nut aren't you? Is it still paranoia when they're really out to get you?Given that your post here was simply a verbatim copy+paste of content that already exists on a page on the web, what is the problem with simply posting the URL to that page?First of all, I didn't delete your original post. I linked to it. Like Axe said, your original post was a complete copy and paste of your website. There was no need to copy the whole thing here when the link would suffice. Unlike other places the folks around here do check the links posted here.In regards to my request to reply within 24 hours. You have to understand that too many people drop in one time, post a spam post and leave and never come back. I wanted to be sure you were serious about your request for opinions. You complied and that's good enough for me. Nobody said you had to be here 24 and 7 and reply to every poster. In regards for opinions on your topic, I agree with Axe - dude, your paranoid. Google is nothing but a bunch of computers compiling their page rankings based on algarithms. If you want to point the conspiracy finger at any search engines, choose the ones like DMOZ etc that are cataloged by real people who can bias the results if they were inclined.Personally I think your premise is weak.Anyone need a doctor here?Unfortunately, I'm not the right kind of doctor. gglcnsrshp, I can understand that you've been unfortunately screwed over in life, I would certainly be extremely pissed off after a LASIK operation that reduced my life's quality. But I also have to give my support to this forum --- nobody here is trying to give you a hard time, so try not to be so angry at everyone, how is being angry going to help you? I think everyone here is in full support of getting back the best search results, and I expect we're willing to help you optimize your site some to get higher up in the rankings. So take action, you can make the conspiracy work to your advantage too...i have noticed a slew of ebay pages in my search results. if you type "bike" in google, youll see pages disguised as actual pages, but once you click on them they're iframes for google searches for "bike" (theyre usually mixed in, may click a few pages before you get one)its quite irritating, its getting harder and harder to find what im actually looking for if im constantly clicking on these sites without knowing..If they are redirects to Ebay, it could be Ebay affiliates trying to get more and more comissions. There was an article out that showed businesses that were making millions just being affiliates of Ebay. This could have increased the amount of affilaites you see.i read in google's term somewhere on their site.. that if a site is caught spamming in that fashion their entire domain will be banned from google.i have yet to see this occur, and i really wish it would! its quite unecessary for ebay to even have affiliates. everybody and their mother knows of ebay..its always url's that look like they were purchased JUST for google, like:http://www.music-site-stuff.com/music/b ... index.html(that isnt a real site as far as i know, but its usually a very generic url ive been noticing.and there are NOTHING else to the site except the iframe for google, so it makes one wonder..Well your gonna see alot of strange things with Google. I find more and more things. We will see even more things possibly when Google goes public.what do you mean "when google goes public"?
