is a guid necessary in rss?

I'm making an rss 2.0 feed for some announcements and I am wondering whether the guid is necessary. The problem is I don't have (and really can't make, see below) a unique link/guid for each announcement.

The feed is being built for a page of announcements that already exists as opposed to (as I often see) the rss being built first, having all the content within it and then being formatted to look nice in a page.

Given that each month of announcements is grouped together on the same page (i.e. 12 pages, each of many announcements, all of which must go together into one feed) I don't see how I can give each one a unique guid.

I pondered using anchors but even that won't work because (and I didn't design this page, nor do I have the right to change it much) each of the pages of announcements (there is one page for each month) are themselves inserted into a 'wrapper' page via some JS and therefore they already make use of the #anchor in the URL. And you can't stack #anchors...

Thanks, and sorry if that wasn't very clear.
