Invisible popups

I know a webmaster who uses a few invisible popups or cookies on his site. It's a site that promotes furniture and that sort of thing and he has a few affiliate programs on there I think. I'm not sure how he uses them but he says they help his affiliate sales.Does g penalize a webmaster for using them? I had never heard of them until he told me about them but it sounded like something he might get in trouble using yet I guess some people do.It's nothing to do with google how you finance your site..Google don't own the internet you know.If the guy is running with Google Ad-sense as well...then yes, it would be against Terms & Conditions I think as I read somewhere that no pop-ups or pop-unders were allowed ( I am not signed upto ad-sense and did once briefly read the terms & conditions though am vague on it now) .If he doesn't have google ad-sense on his site, then there is no problem as far as google are concerned ( it may be a different matter for the affiliates he is associated with though)I'm sure he'll be glad to know that. The reason I thought g might have a problem with it was that in a way it's a hidden URL but then I guess site meter and things like that do to. I used to encrypt my site meter code and I guess it didn't cause me any problems. I don't think he has Adsense. At least I've not seen any.
