Read recently that Homepage page rank of a site can be increased by having a wide variety of anchor text in links pointing to the homepage from sub pages. I dont think I have a single link on any page pointing to the homepage.
Should I? Do you? And if you do do you try to use a wide variety of keywords? This is a good point and everyone overlooks that if you do not have your site "tied up" properly, it will get loose and Google will overlook it thinking that its too wild.
That analogy is ridiculous, but the truth of the matter is that if you want a "strong" website, you want to always link your site together in smart ways. Google likes this and rewards sites which have a great internal link structure. A sitemap isn't enough anymore, as now its just another peice of the puzzle.
This can be time consuming if you have a whole lot of loose articles all over your site, but the better you can link it all together, the more you'll be rewarded. Yes, Google likes it when you interlink your website well.
Make it all easy to follow. Don't link to deep. And make use of no follow and no index attributes to keep your google results tidy.
Google likes this, because if it's clear, easy and fast for google to crawl, then it must be a clear and organised website that users can navigate through with ease. I really never notice this. Well I will check that for the sites having good PR. If it's true then I will also implement it for my site. I know that this is an obvious statement, but one of the best ways to have a nice linking structure is to use an up to date format as your CMS, such as Wordpress or Joomla. For the most part, this takes care of your linking structure for you. I am not sure of this and i have never read anywhere around. First time hearing this and may be it is true. But basically to get a good PR you should work on getting links site that has a better PR than your sites. main question is about linking back to the homepage from deep pages with varied keyword text. no one really touched on that. any ideas? I think the ideas are sort of obvious if you ask me. I personally don't think just having a link back to your homepage is going to do much of anything other than just act like any other site on the net.
However, I have seen other people using various kw as anchor text directing back to their homepage. I have noticed that Yahoo's site explorer finds this and logs it, but how much weight is attributed to it I think is meaningless.
Its all about just getting your site structured together well, not just putting various kw's pointing back to your homepage. Even if that is worth something, its worth next to nothing if your site isn't properly linked together. synapsis: that was the answer I was looking for. You seem to think it has minimum value.
Any other thoughts from anyone Inter linking is a valid practice and should not be over looked. However, somethink else that should not be over looked is linking out to other quality and relevant websites as this fits in with Google's mission to provide users of the internet with relevant information.
Thus, google likes it if you sign post (via a link) visitors to other information on another site. For example, if your site was about fabrics and you were talking about the uses of cotton, then a tiny link to the wikipedia page on cotton would not go a miss.
You don't need a lot, but just the odd external and relevant link here and there. Internal links help but their purpose is different than external links.
Internal links help the search bots understand the relevant keywords on your site.
They also help to show the consistent themes throughout your site. More evidence of
the relevancy of your site to your targeted keyword.
