E.g. you want to store (host) pictures on domain A, but your website in on host Domain B. You then want to link your pictures from domain A and have them show up on Domain B.<br />

It is quite common for webhosts (even the ones you pay money to) to prevent hotlinking. This is because images, movie files etc are some of the highest taxing elements when it comes to bandwidth and storage space (a text page does not take up much of either).<br />

Most webhosts will not allow you store photos / images if they are not used by our webserver as they are not interested in just being the repository.<br />

There is commercial websites that acts like 'picture' briefcases, e.g. storage units but you often have to pay and you will get a bandwidth and a storage limit.
