That is why we should be more careful in when to put our links, exchanging links and linking to those bad neighborhood site will definitely a bad idea because you will considered like them. Avoid site that is involves with link farming they are no good. Yes link exchange can be dangerous to your site, if done blindly. If your link is found on any illegal site, what do you think shall be done with your site?, so while exchanging the links see that the links are quality links Quote: Originally Posted by Hosting India Yes link exchange can be dangerous to your site, if done blindly. It can't be... If it was, what would stop me from creating a the ultimate "bad neighborhood" and then just start linking to all my competitors to screw their SERPS?

The loophole there is just too big. How easy is it to create a spammy site full of random irrelevant links? Pretty easy. All you would have to do is make up a domain name (or a few domain names), join a bunch of disreputable link exchanges and keyword stuff the crap out of your site to get yourself nice and "dirty," and then start linking to the competitors of your real site to get them penalized in the SERPS.

There has to be a different way of them determining that you are in a bad neighborhood other than just finding a link to your site on a disreputable site and deciding based on that that you are disreputable also. There isn't a way to stop bad sites from linking to you if they want to, so there has to be some other factor. The damage is done when you have links on your site's pages that link out to sites Google has already identified as being "bad"

Also if Google spies can join linking services and see a list of sites willing to participate in linking schemes - sure way to get those sites blacklisted
