I need to ask a favour please!

As some of you will know, I have a friend who does free skins for vB (Phantasmagoric), I post them here when I have time to do so. See, my friend has learning difficulties, he's not stupid, far from it, he's one of the most philosophical men I have ever known, what goes on in his mind leaves me speechless when he gets going. Thing is, he's not too clever with the academic side of things, he has no formal education at all, he's tried to educate himself but he's slow to learn new things, once he's learnt something he really does know it mind.

So what's the favour, okay look, I need everyone to keep this secret from Phanatasmagoric, he's a proud man and likes to go through life on his own two feet, long story but he was heavily abused as a child and has always had to rely solely on himself. Here's a recent thing he told me about that'll show you how self reliant he is, some bloke on his phpBB3 template site offered him access to a LIFETIME vB license if he advertised that blokes hosting site on his forum, know what Phantasmagoric did, he went without stuff and paid for the leased license himself, he wanted to show that bloke that he could do it for himself, imagine that, turning down a free lifetime vB license!

Here's what I am asking for, have a look at the file I am attaching to this thread, it shows you how to do category graphics top and bottom, but it is for 3.0.
It would be so wonderful if someone could make this work for 3.8.1 and post the amended file here, and if possible include how to put border graphics left and right of the category bits too.

It would really hurt his feelings if I said someone here has done it for him, but if I say I found a possible solution for him and that I didn't know if it was any use he could keep his pride by saying something like he'll take a look over it and see! I'd let him know the name of the person who figures this out, he'd then know who's coding it was that helps him, it would mean more to him if he can have in mind who he has learnt new things from you see.

I really hope someone here can show some real heart here, wait when you see what free skins he's going to come up with when he has this figured out. ;-)
 
well thats a nice long story.. :) I think you adore that person lol.. Dont worry I wish you will get help from someone around here as I am an Amateur coder cant able to help with this but I will ask some of my friends I know.. I will see what I can do for you.

I do adore him, but not in any sexual way, you know when you meet someone and you can't stand to be in the same room as them, but once you get to know them more you realise they were never the prick you thought they were. Phantasmagoric is like that, I met him in 2003 on his old Metal-Head forum, at first we argued like siblings, I really hated him. After a short while I started to understand how he did things, because he challenges himself all the time to try and improve himself he tries to show others they too can be more than they already are. At first I found that too challenging so I rebelled against him, but in time he helped me to make some massive changes in my life, not least of which, he helped me see the World in a better light, in some ways he saved my life.

He's got so worried about his lack of coding skills he's posted a thread on his site about it, it brought tears to my eyes reading it, I know how small it is making him feel, he's so lovely, I can't stand to let him feel like that about himself. If he can learn this new thing it would help him feel tall inside again, I would be so grateful if your friends can make this work for him. :-)
 
Hun can you post a pic or screen of what he is wanting. I think I know and already have the code for it just want to make sure.... also catch me on msn it listed in my profile.

Sorry its not in an instruction form, these are the two main (v3.8.1) templates edited for:
Top left / center / right images (A, B, C)
bottom left / center / right images (G, F, E)
and gap between categories

Note:
Letters H and D in your diagram are not used in these templates sorry :(

Search for (partial code):

and replace with the actual image path

Can you believe it, he has done it himself, I know, it's amazing isn't it, he had no idea what to do, despite the odds he knuckled down and he's done it himself. He said he took some code from an old 3.6.8 Skin that was doing what he was looking for and has merged it with the 3.8.1 code, wow, I'm speechless.

You guys have been wonderful in helping me, but I have to admit, I am so much happier for him that he has figured it out himself, he can move forward with his pride intact.
