Hi,

I was just wondering, would you say search engines prefer domains with hyphens or a .net?

Thanks for any replies! It makes no difference. You should choose based on which is the nicer, easier domain to remember.

The major search engines treat all gTLDs (generic top level domains) the same.

If possible, make sure some of your target keywords are in the domain. There is no special preference to .com domain. All the TLDs are equal in the eyes of search engines.

Just go with a good domain that is easy to remember and of course related to your niche. You should go with .net domains. Generally crawler does not like hyphen domain so if possible avoid this. If your company is for business, a .com domain would be recommended. And, hyphens between your main keywords in your domain might have positive effects in SERP. IMO Hi,

I think that its upon you to choose your domain name....both are same. Quote: Originally Posted by marcoose Hi,

Thanks for any replies! It depends on what country you want create website (geotargeting), if you want take usa-traffic you should not buy co.uk domain, because in top always will be .com . plus people and search engine respect content. Always giving to content spetial attention.

I will be not surprise that recently search engines discriminated domain names with hyphen. They should target first all the sites that duplicates your content hundred times, because these scums are still indexed with your stolen contents. Quote: Originally Posted by marcoose Hi,

Thanks for any replies! Domain extension matter when we are talking about localized searches. Other than that, they have no affect. You can choose a domain name with hyphen as domain name is not the most important thing in SEO. It may have some weight but you should not worry about it much. Get a domain name that best describes your site and is good name for your users to remember and type. Don’t use hyphens, underscores or any other characters within your domain name that may cause confusion. This may lead people to go to the site with the same address as yours but no dash.

This means not only will you lose traffic, if the site is similar you are transferring it to your competitors.
