i have seen the word (i think it is a file extension) .htaccess being bandied about for a while now.

Could someone explain what it is?After doing a quick search on Google (http://www.google.com), I came up with this website (http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml). I think it would answer any questions you would have about .htaccess. Very quickly, though, here it is in a nutshell. An .htaccess file is a file that allows you to control certain things about your site (error documents, password protection, redirects, etc.) if you're site is on an Apache server. It seems to me that you would have to be pretty hardcore into your webmastering to use it.

Hope this helps.
