how to make your users post more on your forum??

how??! thats a good question, a little of help would be nice... i have a forum with 16000 aprox and only 50 of them participate, the others are only leechers, how do you make them participate more??
i tried with hide hack, but didnt work, and i know if i request to post before see the link they will post crappy things like "thx" "cool" "ok" so..
what should i do? ?_? anyone have a great idea?
