How to make something float: left

I have a site that I'm trying to rewrite using CSS. It all looks fine in MSIE, but when I go to Firefox or Netscape, I run into problems. Basically, I have 4 groups of articles that I want to link to and I want them to be in a 2x2 block. I have the groups farthest to the left (called "Features" and "Opinions") in div's marked "float: left" so that the other groups ("News" and "Sports") will be to their right. As I said, it looks perfect in MSIE, but in Netscape and Firefox, the groups of articles are just positioned right after the other down the page. Also confusing is that this method worked fine at the top of the page, where the quote ("The open mind of the university") is a div marked "float: left" and the image right next to it ("Georgia Forum") is right where I wanted it.

The site is: <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thegeorgiaforum.com/test_page.html">www.thegeorgiaforum.com/test_page.html</a><!-- w -->
and the css is at: <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thegeorgiaforum.com/style.css">www.thegeorgiaforum.com/style.css</a><!-- w -->

Any help will be greatly appreciated, since I really don't want to cheat and just stick all this stuff back into a table.You can start by removing the width from the #news,#sports style.Thanks, Ray. It took me a couple of days to get back to a computer with FireFox so I could fix the problem. I've got that fixed, but now I just need to tweek the layout a bit to get the articles exactly where I want them. I just a quick question about that, though. I'm trying to actually understand what's going on when I program with CSS......So why would it matter whether I set the width to something in this situation? I only ask because the area I put div's in has a width of 600px so I didn't think it'd be a problem to put in two div's that each of a width of 290px. Does anyone know about this?I've forgotten but I think it was because of IE's screwed up box model.
