How to make my forum members active ? and get more members?

Make sure your forum is sexy, choose sexy skins, ones that appeal. You must choose a skin that is appropriate for your website forum.

The colour must match the theme/idea. Things should be neat, and professional. Nobody likes a dirty board :p

I've a hack/tech/games forum, you know a style for my forum ???
 
Been honest you can't make your members be active,you have to have an active forum,if people see a dead forum they won't post or make threads..Keep your board up to date with hacks etc etc

Having a nice looking style and loads of mods is really just aesthetics and can be worked on at a later date, if you notice most of the BIG forums around have the default forum style with minor tweaks here and there, but as Mortheus said before contents is the key!

You need to find a good niche that not many people have thought of but would be interested in, warez and gaming forums are probably the 2 most common ones around and so harder to succeed with as why would someone come over to you if they know of a bigger better place....?!

1st ... a good idea
2nd ... content
3rd .... a nice looking theme, not to darker, is better if you can combine the light with dark
 
ok, ty all for the comments and tips, i've worked 11 hours non stop on my forum and its finally finished, but now my Question is:

"How can i get more members"

please, give tips, all tips are welcome !

i've around the 85 members and I aint happy about it until i have around the 500-1000 :P
